How to reach Nicaragua

When traveling by air, all flights destined for Nicargua land at Managua's International Airport, Augusto C. Sandino. Managua's transit authority is working on the airport to enlarge it, when completed the airport will be able to receive intercontinental flights.

Upon arrival at the airport you must pay $5us for a turist visa, the visa expires after 3 months.

It is possible to extend your stay at the end of your first 90 days by leaving Nicaragua for at least 72 hours. When you return to Nicaragua you will be issued a new visa good for another 90 days.

When traveling by car or by bus you can only cross Nicaragua's borders at El Espino in the north, on the Honduran border near Somoto City and at Peñas Blancas on the Costa Rican border, in the south.

When traveling by sea the ports of entry on the Pacific coast are the sea port at Corinto in Chinandega province, Puerto Sandino near Leon and San Juan del Sur on the Pacific coast. On the Atlantic coast El Bluff Near Bluefields and Puerto Cabezas are the Caribbean ports of entry.
