4 Km from Granada and 37 Km from Managua,along the road between these two towns, you can find the Natural Reserve Laguna de Apoyo . The lake is 8 Km far from the entrance; the first part of the road reach the top of the crater, the last 3 Km get step down to the lagoon. The approaching road is easy, part of it is asphalted and the rest is paved. Most of the paths running along the lagoon are dirt roads and some of these are so narrow that cars can't go trought.
If you are in Managua, you have to catch the bus to Masaya and there change to Apoyo Lagoon (the bus leaves every 2 hours), otherwise you can take a bus to Granada and get down at the entrance for wait the bus from Masaya; the same if you are in Granada and catch the bus to Masaya. If you prefer to go by taxi the cost from Granada is about 100 C$ for the trip.
There are also public lines to Diriomito and Pacayita, two small villages situated in the upper part of the lagoon, in the north. These buses reach the lagoon where there are some little villages and many holiday houses. The last bus back from the lagoon leaves at 4:30 pm.
