Among the churches of the city of Leòn, la Recolección is one of the most beautiful. Located on the “banks street” and distinguished for its exquisite cliff of stucco with a perfect Latin American baroque style, what have taken to be considerated the one with more importance in this city.

The first stone of this church it was placed in december 5th of 1786 by the bishop Juan Félix de Villegas, being fouded by the recoleto priests of the congrecaciòn San Francisco de Nery. Its belfry is made of quarry stone.

Its original construction date of 1762 b the frias mercedarios. In the same century i was demolished to be rebuilt by the teacher Pasqual Somarriba. The predominant architecture of this church is Baroque, but it show manifestations of neoclassic and colonial, visible manly in the frontispiece.

The church La Merced is one the most representative from León and it hosts to the image the Virgin La Merced, brought centuries ago from Barcelona by the Mercendarias frias order and employer the city of León and whose celebrations take palce in the month of September, the day of the Virgin is the 24th, when the iVirgin mage is walked by the whole city in huge procession of faithful. The order Mercedaria was one the first ones arriving in Nicaragua, after the conquest.

Ermita de San Pedro

The construction of this hermitage dates back to the years 1706 and 1718, at the same time with the hermitage to Santiago, San Andrés and Veracruz- They defined the urban surface area of León in that time whose nucleus constituited in the Older Square of Sutiava.

Juan Bautista de Sutiava's church

It is the most monumental after of Leon Cathedral Its construction began in 1698, during the times of the dictator Diego Rodriguez Menendez, continuated by its nephew Bartolome Gonzalez. The one who finished on August 24 1710. Its located in the front of the central square Sutiava Nativesuburb. It was erected in honor to the Saint patron of the Suitiava, San Juan Bautista.

This church is considerated a link among the primitive colonial periods and the properly this Baroque.
We can see romantic influences in its heavy interior arches. Baroque in its facade, in its beautiful columns ochavadas and in its tounghing policromic wooden.

It suffred serious deterioration for that 1804 one requests to the Audience of Guatemala the invenstment the tributes to rebuild her. they higthlight the two lateral altars, in honor to Santa Lucia and the virgen, jewels give the American Baroque and imposing character considering it as "the wooden cathedral".

San Francisco's church

It is located over the Calle Real and it is one of the oldest temples in Granada.

It was bulding by Fray Pedro de Zuñiga in 1639, at the same time of the convent who has the same name. However, with the expulsion of the religious orders in 1830 it remained abandonaded for about 50 years and up until 1881 it was reconditioned to become the convent later in the Western National Institute.

It conservees in it's interior two of the best altarpieces that you can find in Nicaragua.
