La Catedral de San Pedro de Matagalpa,the third largest in Nicaragua, is located at the northeastern of the town. This Cathedral was built in 1874 and reflects the opulence of Matagalpa in that age.

The Cathedral is built in baroque style with heavy bell towers set at both sides on an airy, spacious interior. The Cathedral interior is crisp and cool enough, tastefully adorned with paintings, carved wood, and bas-relief sculptures. It?s the most important monument in town and is easily visible from the hillside that rises on the north of Matagalpa..
