In the Park , one way note the resurgence of life after the dramatic changes caused by the eruptions. Slowly, the sterile rock has been and continues to be invaded by pioneer vegtation which opens the way to more complex forms of life. During "SACUANJOCHE".
Most of the Park's wildlife such as coyotes, skunks, raccoons, opossums, etc., are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at nigth. However, deer, rabbits, iguanas and monkeys also inhabit the Park along with playful parakeets which find refuge within the toxic crater walls, seemingly with no ill effects.
The best time to see them is in the late afternoon when they return to the crater afterfeed. Other birds such as motmots, magpie jays, woodpeckers, and chachalacas also make their homes here.
