Las Isletas is an archipelago of 365 little volcanic islands (one for each day of the year) situated inside Cocibolca Lake, 3 Km. far from Granada city. All these islands are luxuriant, rich in fauna and flora, especially in water birds.
You can visit islands by little ship's boats leaving from Asese port or Cabaña Amarilla port both situated in the South end of Malecón of Granada. By these boats you can run through narrow canals that divide islands and admire a fortification of XIX century, which is on San Pablo Island, and a monkey-colony living on a little isle: when the boat comes near the shore, monkeys arrive all excited!
Most of these islands are private, some fisher family live yet there.
Very intersting is a 100m by 25m (327ft by 82ft) expanse carved into bedrock in the middle of Isla El Muerto (Island of Death), where many statues have also been found.
